The genes of both the parents have a large role to play in baby health. Besides, the care taken of the baby, nursing the baby and all the precautions taken against major diseases contribute to it.
Care Before Birth To ensure baby health the expectant mother must keep herself physically fit to have a normal and healthy baby. Most women require special foods high in proteins after they become pregnant. The nourishment should be good, and the mother should be relieved from work stress or any other kind of mental stress. This can have an effect on baby health later.
Environment Should Be Clean Baby health care indicates providing the proper environment for the baby, where the environment should be clean, safe and cheerful. Physical surroundings alone have little influence on the baby health and its development. The people responsible for a baby’s care are the most important part of the baby’s environment.
Feeding procedures A baby may be fed milk from the mother’s breast or baby milk mixture from a bottle. It is always better to breast-feed the baby at least the first few months in the beginning, but sometimes it may not be possible and bottle feeding is the answer. Baby health is largely dependent on the fact whether the baby has been breast- fed or not.
A Natural Immunity A natural immunity is built within the baby’s body if he is nursed by the mother, and makes him less prone to diseases and gives him a stronger constitution. Besides, the mother’s milk contains all the nourishment that most babies need, like the essential vitamins.
Vaccination In most countries, babies are usually vaccinated against seven fatal diseases. This has become a normal procedure for good baby health, and soon after birth the baby receives the vaccinations in stages from the family doctor or a pediatrician. In any case regular visits to the doctor are important to check out whether the growth and the development of the baby are proceeding normally. Any untoward signs showing deterioration in baby health can be treated immediately.
Physical And Emotional Deprivations Physical and emotional deprivations are two environmental factors that have a severe effect on baby health and their growth and development. Babies brought up in poor living conditions are likely to be smaller and more prone to illnesses and accidents. Those who are not cuddled, held and loved become listless, lose their appetite, and in cases of extreme neglect, may not survive. Babies who are cared for lovingly, that is, in close and understanding contact with their parents, have the best chances of developing a normal, healthy personality.

Environment Religion

What role does religion play in shaping our attitude towards the natural world? One answer was proposed in History Professor Lynn White, who wrote an article entitled, "The Historical Roots of Our Ecological Crisis" In this article, he said that the Western world's attitudes towards nature were shaped by the Judeo-Christian tradition (he also included Islam and Marxism within this overall tradition). This tradition, White wrote, involved the concept of a world created solely for the benefit of man: "God planned all explicitly for man's benefit and rule: no item in the physical creation had any purpose save to serve man's purposes." Along with this, Western Christianity separated humans from nature. In older religious traditions, humans were seen as part of nature, rather than the ruler of nature. And in animistic religions, there was believed to be a spirit in every tree, mountain or spring, and all had to be respected. In contrast with paganism and Eastern religions, Christianity "not only established a dualism of man and nature but also insisted that it is God's will that man exploit nature for his proper ends." White noted that Christianity was a complex faith, and different branches of it differ in their outlook. But in general, he proposed that Christianity, and Western civilization as a whole, held a view of nature that separated humans from the rest of the natural world, and encouraged exploitation of it for our own ends.
There has been much discussion of these ideas, and they have been both attacked and supported But there is no doubt that this article raised some important questions. There is much literature on the influence of religious beliefs and traditions on a person's attitude toward the natural environment. What follows is a sampling of discussions of viewpoints of various religions, as well as statements by some religious groups on environmental issues. Some comparative discussions are listed in the section on.

environmental conservation in nepal

Environmental degradation is a significant concern in Nepal. Problems such as loss of bio-diversity, deforestation, soil erosion, and environmental pollution threaten human survival. Environmental conservation projects address these issues directly through community education and collaboration and hands-on conservation work. Volunteers participate in programs to develop medicinal plants, support local farmers with crop development and seed distribution, assist in erosion control planting efforts, or maintain local nurseries. These simple village-based nurseries produce seedlings used to support reforestation efforts through the establishment of community and private forests. All products produced in the nurseries go directly to the local people. Volunteers may work with local villagers or other volunteers in activities such as sowing, mulching, watering, weeding, and farming

The mountain environment

This is a 'long' unit that encourages children to investigate, through research, other places in the Europe and further afield that share a similar physical environment. People have already experienced a wide range of difficulties resulted from impacts of global warming. The Government of Nepal is celebrating this year's World Environment Day with week-long activities in collaboration with and civil societies to promote awareness among the wide range of stakeholders on climate change – a result of global warming, its impacts and their responsibilities to the issues.
In this connection, the Government of Nepal, Practical Action Nepal and Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development ABIorganized a one-day Seminar in Pokhara on 2 June as one of the functions to mark the World Environment Day 2007.
The main objective of the seminar was to raise awareness of communities, local government line agencies, NGOs and civil societies on climate change and start to taking actions to address the issues arising from climate change. More over 50 participants representing district line agencies, academic institutions, I/NGOs, CBOs and farmers in the Western Development Region of Nepal from Kaski, Tanahun, Syanja and Gorkha districts participated the seminar in Hotel Fewa Prince.
Science of global warming, climate change and its impacts on biodiversity, water resources, human health, linkages to the increasing disasters as observed and experienced on the livelihoods of the communities were shared and synthesized. The toxic environment is the result of ubiquity of unhealthy, processed foods, an increasingly sedentary lifestyle in which individuals spend more time watching TV and using computers than they spend exercising, the explosion of fast food restaurants, the enormous growth of portion sizes, the power of food advertising and marketing, and the junk food industry’s take-over of schools by selling unhealthy items in vending machines, cafeterias, and through school fundraisers.
Brownell and many of his colleagues attribute the nation’s obesity epidemic to the toxic environment. In 1995, the Institute of Medicine noted that the human gene pool has not undergone any real change over the past several decades, when obesity has been on the rise. Therefore, the root of the obesity crisis must lie in the environment-- the social and cultural forces that promote an over-abundance of food and eating, and a deficit of physical activity.

kathmandu valley environment

In Kathmandu Valley Environment ICIMOD has joined with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Nepal Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology to provide a detailed account of the status of the Kathmandu Valley environment highlighting five key environmental issues air quality and traffic management, unplanned settlement, degradation of water resources, waste management, and natural disaster preparedness. Costle[EPA Journal - November/December 1978]
Long before the first Earth Day in 1970, women were playing a major role in the effort to protect the environment.
They showed up at board meetings to point out that industrial expansion would threaten a trout stream or salt marsh. At city council sessions when the planners talked about the economic benefits forthcoming from the new expressway/highrise/industrial park, women often asked about the neighborhood park. Their interest in trees, birds, flowers, and insects was legendary. Construction engineers were said to cringe from the specter of these women who campaigned to protect the air, land, and water.
In the 1940s Dr. Florence Sabin, then in her seventies, campaigned to clean up Colorado by combating diseases spread by contaminated food and water and sewage disposal.
I think that these women symbolized the life-giving and conserving aspect of human nature. What was sometimes portrayed as blind opposition to progress was actually a zeal to protect human health and the quality of life.
One of the most outstanding of these women, Rachel Carson, sounded the alarm about environmental dangers. As a scientist Miss Carson knew the value of careful, detached research, but it was her unique, empathetic presentation of the workings of nature in Under the Sea-Wind, The Sea Around Us, The Edge of the Sea, and finally Silent Spring, that gave impetus to the growing environmental awareness in this country and around the world.
In the following years women played a role in the growing international realization that pollution and environmental damage are problems on a world scale. Diplomat Inga Thorsson of Sweden suggested to the United Nations in 1968 that a conference be held to consider problems of the environment at the intergovernmental level. Secretary General U Thant supported her idea and called for the U.N. conference on the Human Environment that was held in Stockholm in 1972. Inga Thorsson later headed the Swedish delegation to the Governing Council of the United Nations Environmental Program, a product of the Stockholm Conference.
Helena Benitez, President of the Philippine Women's University in Manila, chaired a committee at the Stockholm conference, and in 1975 was named President of the Third Governing Council of the U.N. Environmental Program.
The U.N. commissioned an unofficial report on the human environment to serve as a factual and conceptual background for the conference at Stockholm. Co-author of the report with Rene Dubos was Barbara Ward, the British economist. Their comprehensive and balanced report, Only One Earth, outlined the social, political, and economic dimensions of the pollution problem world-wide.
In this country the late Margaret Mead was a shining example of the role women can play in leading public opinion to support the environmental cause. She was a strong supporter of Earth Day and was president of the North American Nongovernmental Organizations Concerned with the Environment.
Throughout my career in environmental work, I have met women who serve the environment not just as organizers and promoters but as scientists and specialists. Limnologist Dr. Ruth Patrick invented the diatometer, an instrument that plots the growth of microscopic algae, which is used to study pollution in bodies of water. Her theories of fresh-water aquatic life are applied to Environmental Impact Statements throughout the world. In 1975, Dr. Patrick won the Tyler Ecology Prize from Pepperdine University for her work.

Energy the Environment

Energy provides a myriad of benefits; it helps to stimulate economic growth and provides power, such as electricity and transportation fuel, that support the well-being and living standards of people around the globe. Companies in the energy value chain play an essential role in delivering the energy supplies that the world needs.
Businesses, governments, and consumers all have a role to play in ensuring that the benefits of energy are balanced with its impacts on the environment. Energy companies are striving to meet growing energy demand in a manner that is efficient, minimizes pollution and waste, conserves natural resources, and prevents or reduces potentially negative environmental impacts. Business users of energy are working to mitigate their impacts and overall footprint, while consumers are increasingly being called on to conserve, to choose more environmentally-friendly products, and to use energy more efficiently. As the complex interrelationships among energy production, energy use, and the environment become better understood, governments are attempting to design incentives and policies that will help to further increase the benefits of energy and reduce its impacts.
Environmental impacts and greenhouse gas emissions are a result of both the production and consumption of energy and can occur at all steps of the value chain, from extraction and production to product end use. This section summarizes several of the key issues associated with energy and the environment as well as some of the approaches that are underway to address these issues. But only 22 percent allowed their environmental concerns to significantly influence their choice of candidates in federal, state and local elections.
Environmentalists Don't Always Vote GreenEven among people who described themselves as environmentalists, only 39 percent were able to recall an election in which a candidate’s environmental position ranked among the top two or three reasons for the way the cast their vote.
“There is a clear disconnect here,” said William K. Reilly, former head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and chair of the advisory board of the Nicholas Institute. “Seventy-four percent of Republicans and 85 percent of Democrats say they support stronger environmental standards. Yet, when it comes time to vote, they rank the environment low on their list of priorities.”
In focus groups, the environment ranked last out of nine leading political issues, trailing the economy and jobs, health care, Iraq, Social Security, terrorism, education, moral values, and taxes—in that order. Only 10 percent of voters identified the environment as one of their top concerns, compared to 34 percent for the economy and jobs.
Survey Details and HighlightsThe research was conducted for the Nicholas Institute by Hart Associates and Public Opinion Strategies. They surveyed 800 registered U.S. voters nationwide and conducted focus groups of voters in Columbus, Ohio, and Knoxville, Tenn. The survey results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.46 percent.
The research identified five reasons for the discrepancy between voters’ stated support of the environment, and its apparent lack of importance as a political issue once they enter the voting booth:
· Perception of Progress: A majority of voters (57 percent) believe that “a lot” or “some” progress already has been made and that environmental problems are not as bad as they once were. Only 30 percent described themselves as “angry” about a lack of action on environmental issues.
· Economic Impact: Eighty-seven percent of voters believe that it is “at least somewhat likely” that stronger national environmental standards will result in higher taxes. Fifty-six percent fear higher standards will hurt the economy and cause some people to lose their jobs.
· Lack of Urgency: In focus groups, many voters said that they see the environment as a long-term problem, which can’t compare in urgency to immediate concerns such as jobs, health care or taxes.
· Too Much to Grasp: The environment encompasses a broad range of issues, from global warming and sustainable agriculture to water quality and urban sprawl. Few voters care about them all.
· The “Me” Factor: Voters’ political perceptions and priorities vary in response to changes in their personal circumstances and responsibilities.
Another factor in voter support of environmental issues at the ballot box appeared to be their lack of trust in sources of information about the environment. Only 19 percent said there were “a lot” of trustworthy sources of information on environmental issues, while another 40 percent said there were “likely some trustworthy sources.”
According to a press release from Duke University, the Nicholas Institute was founded to provide decision makers with independent, science-driven evaluations of policy risks and rewards, and to work with them to develop innovative, practical solutions. It will unite the broad resources of the Duke University community with the expertise of partners in industry, government and environmental organizations worldwide.
The Nicholas Institute was made possible by a $70 million gift from Peter Nicholas, chairman of Boston Scientific, and his wife, Ginny, to Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences.

Our impact on the environment

As one of the largest food companies in Asia Pacific, Arnott's has an environmental policy in place that reflects its commitment to conduct business in a manner that respects and protects the quality of the environment, striving towards limiting emissions to the water, air and land, and the efficient use of resources.
That's why we work closely with water authorities, like Sydney Water, to identify opportunities for reducing water consumption. Back in 2001, our Smithfield facility, which produces around 360 different types of savoury snack products, was using 850,000 litres of water per day. By 2004, we'd cut total water usage by nearly half to less than 500,000 litres per day.
And Arnott's Marleston bakery has made significant progress in the past 18 months in reducing waste and water consumption by installing, among other things, a $390,000 waste-water treatment plant.
As well as helping to protect water, Arnott’s is also focused on reducing its energy consumption and has a number of programs in place at all sites.
The Company is a signatory to the National Packaging Covenant. Our action plans contain specific objectives to minimise the use of packaging material, where possible; use recyclable materials, where possible; and ensure the environmental impacts of consumer packaging waste are managed and minimised.
So far, Arnott's has:
· Converted more than 1,000 tonnes per annum of biscuit trays from unrecyclable polystyrene to recyclable PET
· Switched to making more than 5,000 tonnes of carton board (eg. for use on boxed products like Shapes and Cheezels) per annum from 100% recycled board. Naturally, these cartons are also recyclable

Population-Environment Balance

, or BALANCE, is a grassroots membership organization committed to stabilizing U.S. population in order to safeguard the carrying capacity of the United States.
Carrying capacity refers to the number of individuals who can be supported without degrading the physical, social, and cultural environment; i.e., without reducing the ability of the environment to sustain the desired quality of life over the long term.
BALANCE's goals and activities are based on the relationships between population size, quality of life, and environmental impact. We believe that safeguarding the future of the U.S. depends upon achieving a balance between population and environment. After all, practically all of our environmental problems, and other quality of life issues, are to a significant degree caused, or exacerbated, by increasing population pressures.
BALANCE is dedicated to:
· Educating the American public and policymakers on the adverse impact of population growth on America's natural and social environment, and
· Achieving a national and Congressional commitment to population stabilization.
The Challenge
As Americans, we are constantly challenged by problems that are merely results of the larger issue: population increase.
· America's population, over 292 million in 2003, continues to grow by about 3.3 million every year, and this increase is disproportionately concentrated in only a few areas.
· The adverse effects of a growing population include environmental degradation, air and land traffic congestion, pollution of all kinds, water shortages, soaring urban housing costs, increased crowding, loss of prime agricultural land, and social stress.
· Our land area is quickly consumed as more people require more space to live, work, and play. Wilderness and scenic countryside shrink, parks become more crowded, and urban sprawl, stripmines, clearcuts, utility lines, landfills, and dams proliferate. Any reasonable definition of carrying capacity must include city parks and scenic countryside as well as lakes, rivers, and wilderness.
· As population grows, taxes increase in order to maintain social services and education, and to continually add costly infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, prisons, roads, and systems for the disposal of sewage and other waste.
· Greater business activity usually does not offset the costs of growth, and those who benefit from increased population are usually not the same people who pay most of the taxes for the required expanded community services and facilities. In fact, population growth adversely affects economic health.
· Populations with relatively high standards of living in industrialized countries use large amounts of energy and generate disproportionately large per capita quantities of "greenhouse gases" (which cause global warming) and toxic pollutants, so even small population increases in such countries can have disproportionate adverse impacts.
· The quality of our daily lives deteriorates as population grows; overpopulation both worsens, and frustrates attempts to solve, social maladies such as crime, psychological stress, and homelessness.
By the year 2020, if current population trends continue, the U.S. will add enough new people to create another New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Francisco, Indianapolis, San Jose, Memphis, Washington D.C., Jacksonville, Milwaukee, Boston, Columbus, New Orleans, Cleveland, Denver, Seattle, and El Paso - PLUS the next 75 largest cities in the U.S.- if we don't act now to stabilize U.S. population.
Grassroots membership support is critical. BALANCE relies on grassroots membership support to fund and implement its initiatives and other activities.
When you join BALANCE, you will receive newsletters, data sheets, and special mailings, and you will have opportunities to help work toward a solution. Become part of the growing movement to fight the growing crisis of too many people for the environment to support.must include city parks and scenic countryside as well as lakes, rivers, and wilderness.
Together we can make a difference!

Environment science jobs

Environmental seience incluees broad scientific areas such as ecology, environmental chemestry,
environmental biology, and geology, it also includes lesser knoware as of stud such as natural
resource use and conservantion, climate change. soil and water science, and pollution the bottom line in environmental science is simple. the protection and conservation. of all as peects of our
environment. air, land, andwater.

Desktop environment

In graphical computing, a desktop environment [DE] commonly refers to a style of graphical
user interface [GUI] that is based on the desktop metaphor which can be seen on most modern personal computers today. 1.
